Work-based learning

About the Course

Vocational education can also be obtained through work-based learning, which is even more practical than traditional vocational education. This means that at least two-thirds of the instruction takes place at the employer’s workplace and one-third at school.

Enrollment in work-based learning requires a job in the relevant field. Throughout the entire study period, the student has two mentors—one at school and one at the company—and work-based learning operates through continuous collaboration between the vocational school, the student, and the employer.

Work-based learning, also known as an apprenticeship, allows the learner to:

combine work and study, since time spent working counts toward the course load;
complete the entire internship at your workplace;
be granted the standard rights of a vocational education student—apply for a student ID card, educational grants, and reimbursement for transportation costs; eligibility for school lunch assistance is extended if you do not have a secondary education and are 20 years old or younger;
learn through hands-on experience and acquire the skills you need for your day-to-day work in this profession;
improve existing qualifications or acquire a new profession in accordance with professional requirements;
receive a vocational education diploma upon completion of the curriculum;
take a vocational exam; upon successful completion, a vocational certificate is awarded.
