Who is a cook and what can they do?
A cook helps the chef in preparing and serving food, pre-processes ingredients, handles the cold processing of vegetables, and prepares vegetable, grain, and pasta side dishes and meals according to instructions. They also perform cleaning and housekeeping tasks, working under the guidance of a chef within a team.
How can one become a cook?
Prerequisite for starting: No educational requirements, suitable also for students following a simplified curriculum.
Form of study: Full-time school-based education.
Duration of study: 1 year.
Volume of company internship: 15 ECTS credits (approximately 390 astronomical hours).
What is learned?
During their studies, students acquire the following competencies:
- Planning and organizing work;
- Managing supplies;
- Pre-processing food raw materials;
- Cooking and serving food.
At the end of the studies, students take a level 3 professional exam for assistant cooks.
What comes next?
Upon completing their studies, students gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to work under the guidance of a chef in large kitchens, restaurants, and other food service providing companies.
