Woodworking Machine Operator (Level 3 Vocational Training)
A woodworking machine operator is a skilled craftsman who cuts lumber or sheet material into precise pieces used to make items such as cabinets, beds, and tables. “This is a practical career for anyone who wants to create something tangible and work as a skilled craftsman in the modern furniture or woodworking industry.”
Duration of Study: This is a short, intensive program worth 60 ECTS credits.
What exactly do you study and do?
- Working on Various Machines: You will learn how to operate and set up essential woodworking equipment, such as saws, routers, planers, drills, and sanders.
- Material Processing: You will learn about the mechanical processing of materials, including the assembly of plywood panels, pressing, and edge banding of parts.
- Reading and Drawing Technical Drawings: You will learn to read technical drawings of furniture and wood products, find the necessary information in them, and create your own working drawings and sketches.
- Understanding the Nature of Wood: You will learn to identify different types of wood and panel materials based on samples, and to understand how moisture and wood defects affect the quality of the material.
- A Real-World Work Environment: A full third of the program—or 20 ECTS credits—consists of internships at actual woodworking or furniture companies, where you’ll work alongside experienced craftsmen.

There are no separate specialization options in this field, as the entire program focuses on providing a strong foundation of basic skills. However, you can expand your skills with exciting elective courses, such as furniture finishing, woodworking, or computer-aided drafting.
