CNC Woodworking Center Operator (Level 4 vocational training)
A CNC woodworking center operator is a skilled craftsman who transforms raw wood or sheet material into the precise components used to build sofas, cabinets, and beds. It is an exciting and thoroughly practical profession for anyone who wants to shape wood, create something with their own hands, and work in the modern furniture or woodworking industry.
Duration of Study: A compact and fast-paced program lasting approximately 1 year (60 ECTS credits).
*This field of study can also be pursued through on-the-job training.
What exactly do you study and do?
- Working on Various Machines: You will learn how to operate and set up basic woodworking equipment, such as saws, routers, planers, drills, and sanders.
- Woodworking Techniques: You’ll learn how to assemble plywood panels, perform pressing operations, and edge-band wooden parts (edge banding).
- Reading and Sketching Drawings: You can read drawings of wood products, create sketches (freehand drawings), and find the necessary dimensions for parts in parts tables.
- Understanding the Nature of Wood: You’ll learn to identify different types of wood and wood defects using samples, as well as how moisture affects the quality of the material.
- Real-world work environment: A full third of the total study time (20 EKAP) consists of internships at actual woodworking or furniture companies under the guidance of experienced master craftsmen.
Course Options
The core curriculum is the same for everyone, but you’ll have the opportunity to choose exciting electives based on your interests: furniture finishing, handcrafting, or taking your first steps in computer-aided design and operating modern CNC machines.
