Cleaning Service Assistant (Level 2 Vocational Training, Urvaste Campus)
This program is designed for students with special educational needs. No prior educational qualifications or a basic school diploma are required for admission. The program is highly practical and will help you function independently in everyday life and at work.
What are you studying and doing?
- Cleaning and Tidying: You’ll learn to spot dirt and recognize different types of surfaces. You’ll learn how to use a vacuum cleaner and cleaning supplies, measure out cleaning products, and perform routine cleaning (cleaning furniture, walls, and floors).
- Clothing and Textile Care: You will learn to read clothing care labels, wash clothes (both by hand and in the washing machine), iron, and properly care for and store clothes and shoes in the closet.
- Everyday Life Skills: You’ll practice using an ATM and a phone safely, visiting a store and a pharmacy, and navigating traffic correctly. You’ll learn how to call for help in an emergency (emergency number 112).
- Communication and Work Life: You’ll learn about your strengths, practice teamwork, and learn how to communicate politely. You’ll learn what an employment contract is, the difference between gross and net pay, and how to create a resume on a computer.
What electives can you take?
- Nutrition and Food Service: You will learn about healthy foods, how to prepare simple meals and drinks in the kitchen, and how to set and serve a table.
- Home Economics: You’ll gain an overview of Estonian holidays and traditions, learn how to plan your future home, and learn how to make teas from medicinal herbs.
- Property Maintenance and Gardening: You will learn how to maintain lawns, hedges, and garden furniture; sort trash; and grow garden crops from seed through harvest.
- Specialized Cleaning Tasks: You’ll gain a basic understanding of how to perform deep cleaning and clean up construction sites.
Internship and Graduation
- A large part of the program is spent on exciting internships outside of school—at real companies and organizations.
- The program concludes with an official certification exam, which is administered in a work environment that is already familiar and comfortable to you.
- During the exam, you will complete a practical cleaning task with the help of your instructor and answer simple questions (interview) to the best of your ability. Your school’s instructor will always be there to support you.
